Dr. Liliane K. Baxter, Ph.D.

I was appointed in 1979 by Coretta Scott King as director of The King Center’s nonviolence training and education programs. I continued in this capacity until 1992, when I returned to Emory University to complete my Ph.D. I have lived close-up with the devastating consequences of hatred and violence since both of my parents are Holocaust survivors. For 13 years, I directed Atlanta’s Holocaust education center.

Having devoted my life to human rights, I have taught nonviolence around the world, including Japan, Russia and Germany. For me, nonviolence is humanity’s best hope for outgrowing our impulse to divide, demean and destroy.
