The King Center, in Collaboration with The Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park and Ebenezer Baptist Church, Announces Meal Pick-Up Initiative for Essential Home Health Care Professionals During Covid-19 Crisis

ATLANTA- Dr. Bernice A. King, CEO of The King Center, announces an initiative to provide meals for home health care professionals who have been designated as essential during the COVID-19 crisis. As organizations, faith-based groups, corporations and individuals continue to address critical needs resulting from the global pandemic, The King Center, in partnership with the National Park Service and Ebenezer Baptist Church, is facilitating meal pick-ups for home health care professionals.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays from May 19, 2020 through August 27, 2020, home health care professionals can pick up meals at The King Center (449 Auburn Avenue NE, Atlanta, GA 30312) between the hours of 11am and 2pm. Each person who has a valid ID that verifies their profession can pick up one meal, on a first come, first served basis.

“Home health care professionals are uniquely challenged to care for older adults and those with chronic illnesses and conditions that make them highly susceptible to severe complications from COVID-19,” stated Dr. Bernice A. King, CEO of The King Center. “Daily, and often under stressful conditions, they ensure that people who are vulnerable to COVID-19 receive vital care. Serving them as they provide this essential service is one way that we can demonstrate greatness. As my mother and King Center founder, Coretta Scott King, said, “The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members.”

Superintendent Judy Forte states, “Dr. King once said, ‘In a real sense all life is inter-related. All men are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.’ The Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park looks forward to collaborating with the King Center and Ebenezer Baptist Church to assist the essential workers who are caring for the most vulnerable in our community during these trying times.”

ABOUT EBENEZER BAPTIST CHURCH

Ebenezer Baptist, with a congregation of over 6,000, serves the Atlanta community in the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site under the leadership of Reverend Dr. Raphael G. Warnock–assuming the role of senior pastor in 2005. Dr. Warnock is only the fifth minister to lead the Ebenezer congregation in its 131 year history. One of his foremost accomplishments to date has been the completion of the Martin Luther King Sr. Community Resource Complex.
