Benefits for Docents
An opportunity to meet and interact with visitors from around the world.
Introductory and continuing education on the work and legacy Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Mrs. Coretta Scott King and The King Center.
Experience with public speaking and dialogue facilitation in English and your native language and effective techniques in approaching and engaging visitors. Docents will learn a variety of touring techniques to ensure the best possible experience for The King Center visitors including the ability to:
- Speak clearly, loudly, and enthusiastically
- Present and carry through a theme
- Adapt tours to the needs and assets of specific audiences
- Engage visitors with questions, utilizing inquiry-based learning strategies
- Communicate information about the Dr. King, Mrs. King and The King Center
Criteria and Commitments
We are looking for candidates who communicate with clarity, kindness, and tact; enjoy working with diverse public audiences; and have an enthusiasm for learning and sharing the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Mrs. Coretta Scott King and The King Center.
Must be older than 18 years old
Time commitment
- Must commit to 6 hours a month for a minimum of 6 months
- Shift is between 10am-4pm
- Monday – Sunday
