Dr King was a family friend. He attended Boston University and took classes with my parents there and at Harvard Divinity School. His inspiration continues to move me to respond to prejudice and inappropriate discrimination where ever it occurs. I dream of a time when our "post-Civil-rights" country will embrace the skills and wisdom of elders, believe that equal work should garner equal pay for women, that good health is not an entitlement or privilege, but rather a basic right -- an appropriate return for a lifetime of work and struggle for our country and its communities. This with food, shelter, community and an avenue for the expression of talent and gifts that God has given each of us. I dream that the pursuit of money and power are seen as unimportant compared to the job of preserving our world and its wonders as well as developing a working, supportive society for our children and grandchildren.
