The Bible In his famous Reden Uber die Religion, Schleiermacher declared; "He does not have religion who believes in a holy scripture, but rather he who needs no scripture and who could make one himself." Translated from the first German edition, P [age] 122 In a similar vein, Ralph Waldo Emerson once wrote these words: "Men make their religion a historical religion. They see God is Judea and in Egypt, in Moses and in Jesus, but not around them. We want a living religion."
